Question 1115131: Train A leaves a station traveling at 40 mph. Six hours later, train B leaves the same station traveling in the same direction at 60 mph. How long does it take for train B to catch up to train A?

.
The distance of the train A from the station is 40*t.

The distance of the train B from the station is 60*(t-6).

At the catching moment the distances are the same

40t = 60*(t-6),

40t = 60t - 360

360 = 60t - 40t

20t = 360  ====>  t =  = 18.

Answer. It will take train B 18-6 = 12 hours to catch up the train A.
