While it is useful to know how to solve this problem using formal algebra, it can also be a useful exercise in logical thinking to solve the problem informally.

In the total of $60.26, Zoey's bill was $5 more than one-half of Logan's bill.

So have Zoey pay that "extra" $5; now Zoey's remaining bill is exactly half of Logan's, and the remaining total is $55.26

So divide the $55.26 into 3 equal parts; 1 part is Zoey's and 2 parts are Logan's.

So Zoey's bill was $18.42, plus the $5 she paid earlier, for a total of $23.42.
