My response. Ooo ! It is much better ! 

3C - T = 3500     (1)   (C is the salary for the cook; P is the physical therapist salary)
 C + T = 74600    (2)

Express T = 74600 - C from (2) and substitute it into (1). You will get

3C - (74600-C) = 3500.

4C = 3500 + 74600 = 78100.

Then C =  = 19525 dollars.
