If you can answer with the steps then great! And thanks so much! This was given to us by our College Algebra 2 Teacher without explanation. Supposedly it is in Sullivan's College Algebra section on problem solving, however I cannot locate an example.

Originally it was priced X.
I reduced it 14% or subtracted 0.14 of the total price, X.
The sell price is then (1-0.14)*X or 0.86X
Original price = $27,950.
Answer by checkley75(3666) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x-(.14x)=22360
.86x=22360
x=22360/.86
$26,000 is the original price of the boat.
proof:
26,000-(26,000*.14)=22360
26,000-3640=22360
22360=22360
