Answer by addingup(3677) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
0.07x - 0.03(1,000,000-x)= 0.05(1,000,000)
Multiply on left and remember that -*- = + :
0.07x - 30,000 + 0.03x = 0.05(1,000,000)
Now multiply on right:
0.07x - 30,000 + 0.03x = 50,000
Add x on left and add 30,000 on both sides:
0.10x = 80,000
Divide both sides by 0.10:
x = 800,000 this is how much he invested at 7%. And:
1,000,000-800,000= 200,000 he invested at a loss of 3%
