Question 9297: Hi, I'm unsure about this equation, could you tell me if it is right or wrong? And if it is wrong, could you please tell me how to get the right answer? Thank you so much!!
Problem: A rectangle and a square have the same width but the rectangle is 5 m longer than the square. Their total area is 133m2. Find the dimensions of each figure. Choices for the square's width: 6, 7, 8.
This is what I have and need to know if it is right or wrong:
This is my equation: W times W times W times W + w(w+7) = 133m2
I found that 7 substituted for w works, so I got these diminsions: Square: 7 by 7
and Rectangle: 12 by 7
Is this right?? Please help quickly!! Thank you so much!!
P.S. I don't know how to get the times sign or any or those other signs on my computer, so I hope that was good enough! Thanks!!
