Question 925502: I have a question on my Algebra I homework. The question is," Lucy has some coins in her pocket. She has 2 less nickels than quarters and 3 times as many dimes as quarters. If Lucy has no more than 20 coins in her pocket, what is the most quarters she could have?
I am supposed to put it as an inequality. (???)
I am so lost with this problem. If you have any ideas please let me know.

Lucy has some coins in her pocket.
She has 2 less nickels than quarters and 3 times as many dimes as quarters.
If Lucy has no more than 20 coins in her pocket, what is the most quarters she could have?
:
let x = no. of quarters
then
(x-2) = no. of nickels
and
(3x = no. of dimes
:
x + (x-2) + 3x =<20
5x =< 20 + 2
5x =< 22
x =< 22/5
x = =<4 quarters (has to be an integer)
that would give us 2 nickels and 12 dimes, a total 18 coins
