Question 904647: Hello,
I am having trouble with the following problem:
The manager of a bulk foods establishment sells a trail mix for $8 per
pound and premium cashews for $15 per pound. The manager wishes to
make a 35-pound trail mix-cashew mixture that will sell for $14 per
pound. How many pounds of each should be used?
Answer by richwmiller(17219) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
a+b=35,
15*a+8*b=14*35
a=35-b
15*(35-b)+8*b=490
525-15b+8*b=490
-7*b=-35
b=5
a=35-b
a= 30 lb at $15.00 b= 5 lb at $8.00
check
15*30+8*5=14*35
450+40=490
490=490
ok
