Question 898572: In a yacht race the second was half the length of the first leg, the third leg was two-thirds of the length of the second leg. and the last leg was twice the length of the second leg if the total distance was 153km find the length of each leg.
Answer by mananth(16946) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
let first leg be x
second was half the length of the first leg,= x/2
the third leg was two-thirds of the length of the second leg.(2/3)(x/2)
and the last leg was twice the length of the second leg 2*(x/2) =x
if the total distance was 153km
x+ x/2 + x/3 + x= 153
multiply y
6x+3x+2x+6x= 6*153
17x= 6*153
x=54 the first leg
