Question 795400: The base of a parallelogram is 7ft more than the height. If the area of the parallelogram is 78ft^2, what are the measures of the base and height?
I would have thought that because we're finding area, the equation would be x(x+7)=78^2... but when I go to solve it doesn't come out correct? Help please? And if you could explain also, that would be wonderful! Thank you!!

The base of a parallelogram is 7ft more than the height.
If the area of the parallelogram is 78ft^2,
what are the measures of the base and height?
:
You don't square 78, it just means 78 square ft
x(x + 7) = 78
x^2 + 7x - 78 = 0
Factors to
(x+13)(x-6) = 0
the positive solution
x = 6 ft is the height
