Question 5058: I have two problems that I have tried to answer but I need them checked to see if I did them correctly, and if not, what I did wrong. Your help will be very much appreciated.
First problem:
Write a complete solution to the following problem.
If the degree measure of the smallest angle of a triangle is one-half of the degree measure of the second largest angle and one-third of the degree measure of the largest angle, then what is the degree measure of each angle?
My answer:
Smallest angle: x = 30 deg.
Medium angle: 2x = 30*(2) deg. = 60 deg.
Largest angle: 3x = 30*(3) deg. = 90 deg.

Here's my second problem:
Write a complete solution to the following problem.
One side of a triangle is 1 foot longer than the shortest side, and the third side is twice as long as the shortest side. If the perimeter is less than 25 feet, then what is the range of the length of the shortest side?
My answer:
Shortest side: x feet
Third side: 2x feet
Other side: x+1 feet
Perimeter: <25 feet
2x+x+1<25
3x+1<25
3x<25-1
3x<24
x<8
So, the range of the length of the shortest side is <8.
Thank you,
E.B.

The first question looks right.

I see an error in the second question when you wrote the equation (or inequality) by adding up the sides of the triangle:

YOU SAID:
My answer:
Shortest side: x feet
Third side: 2x feet
Other side: x+1 feet
Perimeter: <25 feet
2x+x+1<25

THE LAST LINE SHOULD BE:
x + 2x + x+1 < 25
4x + 1 < 25
4x < 24
x < 6
