A length equals x+5 inches a height equals x-5 and an area equal 56 square I need to find the length and height.
:
Area: L * W = 56 sq/inches, therefore
(x+5)(x-5) = 56
FOIL
x^2 - 5x + 5x - 25 = 56
Combine like terms
x^2 = 56 + 25
x^2 = 81
x =
x = 9
therefore
9 + 5 = 14 in is the length
and
9 - 5 = 4 in is the height

:
Check this by finding the area using these values
14 * 4 = 56
