Question 473727: Find the coordinates of two points on the given line, and then use those coordinates to find the slope of the line. (If an answer is undefined, enter UNDEFINED.)
4y = 4

Answer by Theo(13342)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
your equation is 4y = 4
divide both sides of this equation by 4 to get:
y = 1
the slope intercept form of this equation is y = mx + b where m is the slope and b is the y intercept.
since x is not in the equation, this means that m must be equal to 0.
our equation becomes:
y = 0*x + 1 which simplifies to y = 1
the value of y will always be 1 regardless of the value of x.
the slope is also calculated as follows:
slope = (y2-y1) / (x2-x1)
x1,y1 are one point on the line.
x2,y2 are another point on the line.
pick any value for x and the value of y will be equal to 1.
assume x1 = 5 and x2 = 10
our 2 point pairs are:
5,1 and 10,1
y2-y1 = 0
x2-x1 = 5
slope = (y2-y1)/(x2-x1) = 0/5 = 0.
a graph of the equation of y = 1 is shown below:

the line at y = 1 is the graph of the equation of y = 1.
the slope is equal to 0 because there is no change in the value of y for any change in the value of x.
