Find y if the line through (9, 3)and (−7, y)has a slope of − 1/16
(I am assuming slope of NEGATIVE 1/16)
.
slope, given two points is:
(y2-y1)/(x2-x1)
plug in given values from the two points:
(y-3)/(-7-9)
(y-3)/(-16)
.
set it equal to the given slope:
-1/16 = (y-3)/(-16)
multiplying both sides by -1/16:
1 = (y-3)
adding 3 to both sides:
4 = y
