Let y = Joe's present age

x + 2 = 2(y+2)
x + 2 = 2y + 4
x = 2y + 4 - 2
x = 2y + 2

x - 10 = 5(y - 10)
x - 10 = 5y - 50
x = 5y - 50 + 10
x = 5y - 40

Replace x in the 1st equation with (5y-40)
