To check a solution of an equation,
- just substitute the number in for the variable, and if
you get a true statement, then it is a solution

6x^2 = 24, for x = -2
6(-2)^2 = 24 {substituted -2 in for x}
6(4) = 24 {squared -2}
24 = 24 {multiplied 6 by 4}

This is a true statement, therefore
-2 is a solution to 6x^2 = 24
