Question 402389: A rock is thrown upward from ground level. Its distance in feet from the ground after t seconds is given by: h(t)= -16t^2+128t
a) find the t-intercept of the function.
b) what do the t-intercept mean in the context of this problem?
c) when will the rock be at a height of 240 feet.

a) The t-intercepts of the function are the zeros of the function. Set the function equal to zero and solve.

b) The zeros of a function are the points where the value of the function are zero. The values of this function are the instantaneous height of the projectile. Height is measured from the ground level, so zero height is at the ground. The first zero of the function is at time zero when the projectile is launched, the second one is when it returns to the ground.

c) Set the function equal to 240 and solve. Set the function equal to zero and solve for the two values of t when the projectile will be at 240 feet -- once on the way up, and the other on the way back down.
