Answer by checkley79(3341)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A^2+B^2=C^2
10^2+X^2=(X+2)^2
100+X^2=X^2+4X+4
100=4X+4
4X=100-4
4X=96
X=96/4
X=24 FEET IS THE HEIGHT OF THE LADER AGAINST THE WALL.
24+2=26 FEET IS THE LENGTH OF THE LADDER.
pROOF:
10^2+24^2=26^2
100+576=676
676=676

by Pythagoras ___ x^2 + 10^2 = (x + 2)^2

x^2 + 100 = x^2 + 4x + 4

96 = 4x
