3x+2y=8
.
Multiply both sides of the bottom equation by 3 then combine both equations:
5x-6y= 40
9x+6y= 24
----------
14x = 64
x = 64/14
x = 32/7
.
plug the above into the top equation and solve for y:
5x-6y= 40
5(32/7)-6y= 40
5(32)-42y= 280
160-42y= 280
-42y= 120
y = -120/42
y = -60/21
y = -20/7
.
Answer: (x,y) = (32/7, -20/7)
