Question 334993: If a motorist can travel 1 km 1 1/4 minutes, how far can he travel in 1 hour?
Answer by checkley77(12844) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1/(1 1/4)=X/60
1/((1*4+1)/4)=X/60
1/((4+1)/4)=X/60
1/(5/4)=X/60 INVERT THE DENOMINATOR & MULTIPLY.
1*4/5=X/60
4/5=X/60 CROSS MULTIPLY
5X=60*4
5X=240
X=240/5
X=48 ANS.
WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO WORK IN FRACTIONS?
DECIMALS, MANY TIMES, ARE MUCH EASIER AND FASTER.
--------------------------------------------------------
1/1.25=x/60
1.25x=60
x-60/1.25
x=48 kmh. ans.
