Question 280422: A new cruise ship line has just launched 3 new ships: the Pacific, the Caribbean, and the Mediterranean. The Caribbean has 38 more rooms then the Pacific.
The Mediterranean has 40 fewer rooms than twice the number of rooms on the Pacific. Find the number of rooms for each of the ships if the total number of rooms for the 3 ships is 574.
Am having a hard time figuring this.I need a formulas to solve this. I don't know how to figure without knowing 1 of the variables of 1 of the ships.
Can you please lend a hand ?
Answer by richwmiller(17219) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
We have three variables(unknowns)
We need three equations
we are told that there are 574 rooms on the three ships
p+c+m=574
m=2p-40
c=p+38
substitute and solve for p
p+p+38+2p-40=574
4p-2=574
4p=576
p=144
c=p+38
c=182
m=2p-40
m=248
