The area of a parallelogram is given by the
formula 



The base is QR which is 4 units (count the units using the
x-axis as a measuring stick).

Now we draw in the height.  I'll draw it in green 



The height is the green line segment which is 5 units long
(count the units using the y-axis as a measuring stick).

So  
    
     square units.
