The question is:
If x varies inversely as v, and x=12 when v=8, find x when v=32.
I have:

8 x 32
12 x x
I have x = 48; I multiplied the 12 by 4, as in the equation 8 x 4 = 32.

Your solution might be better suited for x varies as v but not x varies inversely as v.
What is the inverse of v? 1/v
x varies inversely as v means x=k*1/v
Our job is to find k knowing one x and v.
x=12 and v=8
x=k*1/v
12=k*1/8
k=96
We have the equation
x=96*1/v
x=96*1/32
solve for x.
