Vong grilled 21 burgers at a block party. He grilled the same number of pounds of turkey burgers as hamburgers. Each Turkey burger weighed 1\4 pound and each hamburger weighed 1\3 pound. How many of each did Vong grilled.
I think I need two equations:
t + h = 21
Can't figure out the rest...

yes turkey burgers + hamburgers=21
but we also know that since the poundage was the same
number of turkey burgers times 1/4 = number of hamburgers times 1/3
t/4=h/3
solve for t
multiply by both sides by 4
t=4h/3
t+h=21
4h/3+h=21
multiply both sides by 3
4h+3h=63
combine
7h=63
divide both sides by 7
h=9
t+h=21
t=21-h
t=12
check
t/4=h/3
12/4=9/3
3=3
ok
