23.Recent survey of high school students reported that 43% of them kept their money in a savings account, while 13% used a checking account. If 1,500 students were interviewed for the survey, how many survey responders DO NOT have money in either a checking or savings account?

Answer by solver91311(24713)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!

Multiply both sides of your equation by

Add to both sides

Multiply both sides by

*******************************

Your second problem is very similar to the first. You should be able to handle that one now.

*******************************

If you miss 8 out of 64, then you got 64 minus 8 = 56 correct. Divide 56 by 64 and express as a percentage. Hint: move the decimal point two places to the right and add a percent sign.

*******************************
Since it seems that the two kinds of accounts are mutually exclusive, that is it doesn't seem that there is any portion of the students that keep their money in both a savings and a checking account, the percentage of them that put their money in one or the other is the simple sum of the two given percentages. The percentage that don't use either is (100 minus the sum of 43 and 13)%. This percentage, expressed as a decimal (move decimal point 2 places left and remove percent sign), multiplied by 1500 will give you the number of responders who do not have money in either type of account. You get to do your own arithmetic. If you write back with your answer, I'll check your work for you.
