You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Jack gave 1/2 of his apple to Jill, Jill gave 1/3 of the apple she received to Pete and Pete gave 1/4 of what he received to Mike, if Mike received 24 apples, how many did Jack have originally?
:
Let x = original no. of apples
:
Jill received 1/2x
:
Pete received 1/3*1/2x = 1/6x
:
Mike received 1/4*1/6x = 1/24x
:
1/24x = 24
:
x = 24 * 24
:
x = 576 apples originally
:
Check on a calc 576 /2 /3 /4 = 24
