Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
2y+x=1
y-2x=8
---------
Solve the 2nd equation for "y": y = 2x+8
Substitute into the 1st to solve for "x":
-----------
2(2x+8)+x=1
4x+16+x=1
5x=-15
x = -3
Substitute into y=2x+8 to solve for y:
y = 2*-3+8
y = 2
