To solve that algebraically, you need to find two numbers whose product is 345 and whose difference is 8.
But that's what the original problem required you to do -- so the formal algebra doesn't get you any closer to the solution.
Solve the problem informally instead by simply looking for ways to factor 345....
345 = 3*115 = 3*5*23 = 15*23
ANSWER: The new dimensions of the lot are 15m by 23m.
