How many chickens and cows are there on the farm?

x cows and (47-x) chicken


The total number of legs equation is


    4x + 2(47-x) = 164.


From the equation,


    x =  = 35.


ANSWER.  35 cows and 47-35 = 12 chicken.


CHECK.  35*4 + 12*2 = 164 total legs.   ! Correct !
