What is the median of the integers 1 through 11?
Let's list them from smallest to largest:

1,  2,  3,  4,  5,  6,  7,  8,  9, 10, 11

Just as the median of a highway is right in the middle, so is the median
of the integers 1 through 11. It's right in the middle, too.  It's the red 
number.
