Question 1040916: Find two numbers whose sum is 21 and whose difference is 11

Answer by ikleyn(52776)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
.
a + b = 21,   (1)
a - b = 11.   (2)

Add equations (1) and (2) (both sides). You will get

2a = 21 + 11 = 32,

hence, a =  = 16.

Then from (2) b = a-11 = 16-11 = 5.

Answer. The numbers ar 16 and 5.
