Question 302928: A collection of dimes and quarters is worth $25. There are 40 more dimes than quarters. How many of each are there?
Let d=dimes
q=quarters
I came up with these two equations put they didn't work out:
10d + 25q = 25
40 + q = d

Question 307537: The cost of 4 boxes of small paper clips and 9 boxes of large paper clips is $15.75. Eight boxes of small clips and 7 boxes of large ones cost $16.65. Find the cost of a box of each size of paper clips.
I tried to solve this word problem, but with no success. I got that small clips cost -$29.48 and large ones cost $14.85. As you can tell, these answers don't even make sense, and I have no idea what I did wrong! If you could help me that would be great! I have a test on this material tomorrow and I am panicking! :(

Tried this way and it did not work D 5x(10) N x Q 3x-7
50x+ x + 75x-7 = 345
126x-7=345
+7 +7
126x/126=352/126
x=2.79
Can you please explain what it is I am doing wrong?
