Question 998895: You have a bank containing a total of 89 coins in dimes and quarters. If the piggy bank contains $16.70 how many dimes are there in the piggy bank
Answer by CubeyThePenguin(3113)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
d = number of dimes
q = number of quarters

eqn 1: d + q = 89
eqn 2: 10d + 25q = 1670

Multiply eqn 1 by 25.

25d + 25q = 2225
- (10d + 25q = 1670)
----------------------
15d = 555
d = 37

There are 37 dimes in the piggy bank.
