Question 995477: Sally gave her brother $3.95 in quarters and dimes. If the number of quarters is 6 more than the number of dimes, how many quarters did Sally give her brother?
Answer by CubeyThePenguin(3113) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
d = number of dimes
q = number of quarters
10d + 25q = 395
q = d + 6
Substitute the second equation into the first.
10d + 25(d + 6) = 395
10d + 25d + 150 = 395
35d = 245
d = 7
Sally gave her brother 7 dimes and 13 quarters.
