Question 993326: the total value of the dimes and quarters in a bank is $5.90. There are four more quarters than dimes. Show the equation to find the number of each type of coin in the bank.
Answer by CubeyThePenguin(3113)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
d = number of dimes
q = number of quarters

10d + 25q = 590
q = d + 4

Substitute the second equation into the first.

10d + 25(d + 4) = 590
35d + 100 = 590
d = 14

There are 14 dimes and 18 quarters.
