Question 990933: If Erik has 3 times as many nickels as dimes and they have a combined value of 125 cents, how many of each coin does he have?
Answer by CubeyThePenguin(3113)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
n = number of nickels
d = number of dimes

n = 3d
5n + 10d = 125

Substitute the first equation into the second.

5(3d) + 10d = 125
25d = 125
d = 5

Erik has 5 dimes and 15 nickels.
