Question 990048: Gilbert discovered $2.75 worth of nickels and dimes. He had 35 coins. How many coins of each did he have?
Answer by CubeyThePenguin(3113) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
n = number of nickels
d = number of dimes
n + d = 35
5n + 10d = 275
Multiply the first equation by 10.
10n + 10d = 350
-(5n + 10d = 275)
---------------------
5n = 75
n = 15
Gilbert has 15 nickels and 20 dimes.
