There are 8 more quarters than dimes in a parking meter. Three times the number of dimes is 1 less than twice the number of quarters. Find the number of dimes and quarters.
let x=number of dimes in the parking meter
x+8=number of quarters in the parking meter
3x=2(x+8)-1
3x=2x+16-1
x=15
x+8=23
=number of dimes in the parking meter=15
x+8=number of quarters in the parking meter=23
