Question 987826: Selma paid a bill of $2.70 in quarters, dimes, and pennies. She had five less quarters than dimes, and four less quarters than pennies. How many coins of each kind did she use to pay the bill?
Answer by Boreal(15235) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
dimes=x
quarters=x-5
pennies=x-1
.10x+.25(x-5)+.01x-.01=2.70
.10x+.25x-1.25+.01x-.01=2.70
0.36x-1.26=2.70
0.36 x=3.96
x=11 dimes
x-5= 6 quarters
x-1=10 pennies
That is $1.10+$1.50+$0.10=$2.70
