Question 985237: If johny has twice as many dimes as quarter, amounting to $6.75 in all, how many coins does he have?
Answer by ikleyn(52788) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let q be the number of quarters Johny has.
Then the number of dimes in his possession is 2q.
Thus you have an equation
25q + 10*2q = 675.
Solve it:
(25 + 20)q = 675,
45q = 675,
q = = 15.
So, Johny has 15 quarters and 2*15 = 30 dimes.
Check: 15*25 c + 30*10 c = 675 c.
