Question 972792: A bag containing $1 and $2 coins the number of $1 is half the number of $2 she has 135 dollars in the bag how many coins are in the bag?
Answer by rothauserc(4718) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
let x be number of $1 coins and y be number of $2 coins, then
x = y/2
1x + 2y = 135
substitute y/2 for x
y/2 + 2y = 135
multiply both sides of = by 2
y + 4y = 270
5y = 270
y = 54 and x = 27, therefore
there are 27 $1 coins and 54 $2 coins in the bag

check answer
27 + 2(54) = 135
27 + 108 = 135
135 = 135
