Question 951286: the number of dimes ihave is 10 more than twice the number of nickels the value of my coins is $9.00 how many coins do i have?
Answer by macston(5194) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
n=nickels; d=dimes=2n+10
$0.05n + $0.10d =$9.00 Substitute for d
$0.05n + $0.10(2n+10)=$9.00
$0.05n +$0.20n + $1.00=$9.00 Subtract $1.00 from each side.
$0.25n=$8.00 Divide each side by $0.25.
n=32 ANSWER 1: You have 32 nickels.
d=2n+10=2(32)+10=74 ANSWER 2: You have 74 dimes.
CHECK
$0.05n + $0.10d =$9.00
$0.05(32) + $0.10(74) =$9.00
$1.60+$7.40=$9.00
$9.00=$9.00
