In my spare change drawer, I have a lot of coins. I have some quarters and some nickels. I actually have twice as many nickels as quarters. I also have some pennies and dimes. There are two less pennies than nickels and five more dimes than quarters. I know that I have $5.65. How many of each coin do I have?
----------------
Equations:
n = 2q
p = n-2
d = q+5
p + n + d + q = 565 cents
--------------------------------
Substitute and solve for "n":
(n-2) + n + (q+5) + q = 565
----
(2n) + 2q = 562
2n + n = 562
3n = 562
n = 187 1/3
Note:: The instructions are not realistic.
The number of nickels must be a whole number.
