Question 895341: you have $2.25 in nickels and dimes, you have 40 coins total, how many nickels and how many dimes?
Answer by JulietG(1812)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
If all 40 coins were dimes, you would have $4.00
The actual total you have is $2.25, leaving a difference of $1.75
The difference between a dime and a nickel is .05
$1.75 / .05 = 35
35 of your coins are nickels. 35 * .05 = 1.75
That leaves 5 coins as dimes. 5 * .10 = .50
$1.75 + .50 = $2.25
