Question 886282: a collection of nickels and dimes is a total value of $2.00 and contains 25 coins. How many of each coin is in the collection?

If all 25 coins were dimes, the total would be 25 * 10 = $2.50
The actual total is $2.00
$2.50 - $2.00 = 50 cents
The difference between a dime and a nickel is 5 cents
50 cents / 5 cents = 10
There are ten nickels for a total of .50
If there are 25 coins and 10 are nickels, 15 must be dimes
15 dimes at .10 each = $1.50
$1.50 (dimes) + .50 (nickels) = $2.00
>>15 dimes, 10 nickels
