Answer by KMST(5328)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
If Kim had 60 dimes and 62 more quarters than dimes, she would have
62 + 60 = 122 quarters
122 quarters = $30.50
60 dimes = $6.00
The total adds up to $36.50 , which is not the same as $50.50

= number of dimes
If Kim had 62 more quarters than dimes,
= number of quarters.
The value, in $, of dimes plus quarters is
,
so the equation to solve is

Solving:

Verifying:
If Kim had 100 dimes and 62 more quarters than dimes, she would have
62 + 100 = 162 quarters
162 quarters = $40.50
100 dimes = $10.00
The total is $40.50 + $10.00 , which is $50.50.
