Let n represent the answer, the number of nickels in the roll. $0.05n = $5.00 Drop the dollar marks 0.05n = 5.00 Multiply both sides by 100 (move the decimals two places to the right) 5n = 500 Divide both sides by 5 = Cancel the 5's on the left side of the equal sign and divide 500 by 5 on the right side: = 500�5 n = 100 Edwin

[You might point out that a standard roll of nickels is worth $2, not $5
and it contains 40 nickels not 100, so this is a much longer roll of nickels,
times as long as a standard roll.]
