Question 767996: Derek has 108 coins worth $ 18.00. If he only has dimes and quarters, how many of each does he have
Answer by Cromlix(4381) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x + y = 108...1
10x + 25y = 1800...2
Multiply (10 by 25
25x + 25y = 2700...3
10x + 25y = 1800...2
Subtract (2) from (3)
15x = 900
x = 60
Substitute x = 60 in (1)
x + y = 108...1
60 + y = 108
y = 108 - 60
y = 48
Derek has 60 dimes and 48 quarters.
Hope this helps.
