Question 764629: I have 21 coins in my wallet, all nickels and quarters. The total value of the coins is $3.65, how many quarters and nickels do I have?
Answer by Cromlix(4381) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x = Quarters
y = Nickels
x + y = 21...1
25x + 5y = 365...2
Multiply (1) by 5
5x + 5y = 105...3
25x + 5y = 365...2
Subtract (3) from (2)
20x = 260
x = 13
Substitute x = 13 in (1)
x + y = 21
13 + y = 21
y = 8
So, there are 13 quarters and 8 nickels.
Hope this helps.
