Question 760236: Emily collects $1 and $2 coins in her piggy-bank. Last week she counted 180 coins to the value of $325. Form an equation and solve it to find the number of $2 coins she has.
Answer by Cromlix(4381)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x = $1 coins
y = $2 coins
x + y = 180 ......1
x + 2y = 325......2
Subtract (1) from (2)
y = 145
Substitute y = 145 into Eq (1)
x + y = 180
x + 145 = 180
x = 180 - 145
x = 35.
So, Emily has 35 $1 coins and 145 $2 coins.
Hope this helps.
